I first went camping when I was 11 on a family holiday in the north west of Scotland. It rained continually for two weeks, which put an end to any more trips until 51 years later, in 2016, I decided it was the best way to get close to nature. I spent 2 months exploring the north west of Scotland on foot, wild camping as I went. It rained a lot, but I loved it.
The plan for the future is to hike across Sweden & Norway in the summer months wild camping.
One of the best things about wild camping are the views you get every morning. I normally camp near water, because I love the sound of it gently lapping against the sides of a loch or trickling down a stream.
I make sure I camp where it is legal to do so, in Scotland and on Dartmoor this is easy, but in other parts of the UK you need the land owner's permission.
Of course, you need to be self-sufficient and on those occasions when there are 5 days between shops you need to carry a lot of food.
